REPORT: Wednesday 3-0 Notts County

Wednesday progressed to the second round of the Capital One Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Notts County.

Stuart Gray made three changes to the side that started at Brighton with Chris Kirkland, Jose Semedo and Gary Madine coming into the side to replace Keiren Westwood, Sam Hutchinson and Kieran Lee.

The Owls, full of confidence after the victory on the South Coast, got off to the best possible start when Jacques Maghoma put them 1-0 up inside 100 seconds, before the visitors had even got a touch of the ball.

It was a sign of things to come as the lead was doubled just five minutes later when Gary Madine tapped in at the back post after a perfectly weighted cross by Chris Maguire.

Atdhe Nuhiu then spurned three headed chances before the half hour as Wednesday looked to put the game beyond a shellshocked County.

The Magpies did have a chance before half time but Liam Noble screwed his shot wide.

Shaun Derry rung the changes at half time with Adam Dawson, Gary Jones and Jeremy Balmy replacing Elliot Whitehouse, Alan Smith and Nicky Wroe.

There were two more golden opportunities for Nuhiu early in the second half but he headed the first effort wide before finding Roy Carroll in the County goal with his second headed effort.

Nuhiu did finally get on the scoresheet in the 65th minute when he stooped to head home Joe Mattock’s cross.

Stuart Gray was then afforded the chance to give Glenn Loovens and Giles Coke a breather, as they were replaced by Kamil Zayatte and Rhys McCabe in quick succession.

With ten minutes left the Owls made their final change as Paul Corry came on for Jacques Maghoma.
