PREVIEW | Wednesday -v- Stoke

The international break is over.

They always seem a bit long don’t they?

I can’t stand the weekend without football, but it always builds the excitement for the first game back.

It’s always nice if, like this time around, a player from our club goes and has a great game on national duty.

Atdhe Nuhiu starred in Kosovo’s first competitive win, bagging a goal in the process.

The FIFA19 ratings came out by the way, did anyone care?

No?

Okay.

Owls Team News

Abdi and Hooper have shaken off injuries and will be trying to rebuild match fitness over the coming weeks, but Kieran Lee suffered a setback in an U23s game.

I have to admit, I’ve no idea if Pudil or Van Aken are fit. Sam Hutchinson will miss out with a groin injury.

Onomah and Hector are both available to make their debuts for the club.

The big setback is a three match ban being handed to Forestieri for his behaviour in a pre-season game, which was clearly a difficult decision as it took 2 months.

Goal of the month winner!

The Opponent’s Camp

Stoke were relegated last season, at the end of a surprisingly bad Premier League campaign.

It was expected they’d storm the Championship, having held onto many of the players who must still be commanding top flight wages.

A shock stuttering start sees them sit 18th at this stage, 7 places behind the Owls.

It seems unlikely this will continue all year, many a team has started slowly and gone on to still achieve promotion.
It’s impossible to write off a team with such a strong squad for this level.

For Saturday, Tom Ince is back fit but James McClean and Sam Clucas will miss out through injury.

Slight edge for Wednesday.

We’ve only played once since 2008, a 2-0 defeat away in the League Cup in 2015 (the round that followed our 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal at Hillsborough).

Matt’s Prediction – Defeat

We’ve won three in a row, we’re doing well, players signing deals, loanees have come in, BBC radio commentary is back.

Obviously we’re getting beaten.

1-0 Stoke.

Scoreboard

Matt 4 – 3 Real Life
