PREVIEW | Brentford -v- Wednesday

PREVIEW | Brentford -v- Wednesday

Brentford away.

For whatever reason I never look forward to Brentford away.

Probably because it’s a really long way with a small away end so I never get to go, mixed with the fact Brentford have developed into a really solid team with an excellent home record.

There’s some positives going into the game though, following the Cup win at Sunderland. the transfer embargo has been lifted by the EFL, so there’s a possibility of getting some loanees in.

Owls Team News

Wednesday will still be without Gary Hooper and Kieran Lee, and Almen Abdi appears to still be missing as well.

Joost Van Aken, Lucas Joao and Morgan Fox will all be doubts after picking up knocks in recent games.

Plenty of youngsters have thrown their names into the hat after strong performances at Sunderland in midweek.

Atdhe Nuhiu returns from suspension, which will be a huge boost.

Off the mark

The Opponent’s Camp

Brentford have spent a few years now excellently wheeling and dealing in the transfer market.

But this summer, the key was holding onto some of the brighter sparks.

Ryan Woods’ move to Swansea never came about, and Olly Watkins has stuck by the club as well.

Neal Maupay can be a real threat if he finds a bit more consistency.

It’s not hard to imagine that Brentford could comfortably make the playoffs this year.

Last five 3 Games

Wednesday

Wigan 3 – 2 Wednesday

Wednesday 1 – 1 Hull City

Sunderland 0 – 2 Wednesday

Brentford

Brentford 5 – 1 Rotherham

Stoke City 1 – 1 Brentford

Southend 2 – 4 Brentford

Head to Head

Wednesday wins: 14

Draws: 13

Brentford wins: 11

This is probably as close as head to head records come.

The Owls went 7 games unbeaten against the Bees from 2011 til 2016, but have lost 2 of the last 3.

An option up top?

Predicted Lineup

Luhukay has a few conundrums now as we move towards a hectic set of fixtures.

Here’s what I’d pick but I’m not a manager.

GK: Cameron Dawson

RWB: Ash Baker

CB: Tom Lees (C)

CB: Sam Hutchinson

CB: Daniel Pudil

LWB: Adam Reach

CM: Joey Pelupessy

CM: Barry Bannan

CAM: Fernando Forestieri

ST: Atdhe Nuhiu

ST: Marco Matias

Matt’s Prediction – Pasting

It’d be just like Wednesday to get absolutely battered just days after getting out of a transfer embargo.

Brentford have everything we don’t – pace, pace and pace – they’ll expose the wing backs.

Hoping my run of getting the guesses wrong continues.

4-0 to Brentford.
