MATCH PREVIEW:Brighton & Hove Albion -v- Wednesday

After a poor performance and a rare Hillsborough loss, the Owls have an opportunity to right things but it’s a tough trip to Brighton, can the Owls get back on track?

The Owls will look to quickly get over the loss to Rotherham, a midweek trip to Brighton is hard going but surely Wednesday can put in a more convincing effort.

Wednesday were the masters of their own downfall as they started sluggishly, conceded and then spent the remainder of the game trying and failing to break down a stubborn Rotherham side, people can bemoan the performance of the referee but truth be told, that’s just masking a poor Owls outing.

Brighton kept their fine away record going with a good point at Deepdale, The Seagulls did put the ball in the North End net twice but the linesman’s flag ruled out both strikes.

Wednesday haven’t won in four and have scored just once in the process, the goals have dried up recently and Forestieri’s absence has been felt, can someone step up and fill the creative void and pump much needed goals into the Wednesday formula for victory.

Brighton haven’t conceded in three games and have lost just once in the last nine games, they also haven’t lost at home since New Year’s Day,all signs point to a tough outing for Carvalhal’s men.

Wednesday 0-0 Brighton & Hove Albion

Wednesday kept their recent good record against Brighton going with a 0-0 draw at S6 last time out, their last trip to the South Coast was on the opening day of the 2014/15 season with the Owls stunning the rest of the division with a Giles Coke stunner giving the Wednesday a 1-0 victory.

The Owls have lost just twice in the last twelve meetings against the Seagulls but goals have been scarce to come by, the last fixture that both teams scored in was a 1-1 draw in 2013.

CARVALHAL’S COHORTS

Fernando Forestieri completes his suspension but the Owls could receive a timely boost if Sam Hutchinson is able to return from injury.

The Owls have no new injury or suspension worries.

Brighton could welcome back Gordon Greer for this one.

KEY PLAYERS

Gary Hooper is a goalscorer but recently he hasn’t really shone as of late, he is the sort who only needs one chance to put a goal away and in a tough away game like this, one chance is all he may get.

Tomer Hemed has had a good spell in front of goal recently, the Israeli international could give Tom Lees and company a torrid time if the Brighton midfield can supply him well.

HERE COMES D-JUDGE

Recent efforts haven’t been good enough and the foot has gone off the pedal since the Brentford victory, that’s coincided with Forestieri’s absence but I thought we were more than a one man team and that team didn’t turn up on Saturday and didn’t deserve to win.

One thing we shouldn’t do is dwell on defeat though and instead look on righting the wrongs we’ve been committing recently and looking to get back to what we do best.

We need more from the superstars and our form dipping has coincided with Aiden McGeady’s arrival. He’s capable of more and needs to start showing it.

A win here and recent struggles are forgotten, another loss and we really need to ask ourselves “are we real contenders or another of the wannabes”?

VERDICT: 2-0 to Brighton
