Sheffield Wednesday have this evening confirmed the three-month loan signing of Gary Hooper from Norwich City.

Wednesday have battled long and hard to complete the signing of the former Celtic man, and Carlos Carvalhal will be delighted to finally bring Hooper into the squad.

Hooper is 27 years old and first made his name in the third and second tiers of English football at Scunthorpe United. He moved north of the border in 2010 for over £2m and scored 63 goals in 90 league starts for the Bhoys.

His return to England has seen a decline in his scoring prowess, as he struggled to cope with the demands of the Premier League both last season and during the 2012/13 campaign. However, he did manage to net 12 goals from just 16 starts as Norwich were promoted at the first attempt last year.

He arrives facing stiff competition from Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas João, both of which have been in good form this season without being definitive goal scorers for The Owls.

Hooper joins Michael Turner on loan from Norwich City, as well as a further four players on temporary stays. The Wednesday coaching staff will now have to be wary of loan rulings on match-day squads – no more than five can appear on the same team-sheet.

Wednesday fans will be hoping that the signing of Hooper can be the final piece in the jig-saw as Carvalhal’s cohorts make a jaunt at the top six.

He will wear squad number #14 for the duration of his stay.
