NEWS | Kieran Lee renews Wednesday contract

Sheffield Wednesday have today revealed that popular midfielder Kieran Lee has renewed his contract with the club.

Lee is among the longest serving Wednesday players, and his new deal will expire at the end of the 2018/19 season.

He joined Wednesday on a Bosman transfer from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2012.

The former Manchester United trainee has gone on to make almost 150 appearances in four seasons.

Initially joining as a right-back, he came to prominence under Stuart Gray as a dynamic and creative midfield player, and has been among the most consistent performers for the past two seasons.

Lee took his game to the next level last season under Carlos Carvalhal, making the most first team appearances of any player.

He showed a new tenacity without possession, and relished playing alongside other creative outlets in one of the Championship’s finest midfields.

His seven goals, including the memorable second against Brighton in the play-off semi-final, were key to Wednesday’s success.

Lee told the club’s official website: “I’ve enjoyed it here from the very first day and can see the club is moving in the right direction and I want to be part of it.

I want to thank all the fans for their support for me while I’ve been here.

Hopefully we can give them what they deserve this season.”
