Semedo Stays at S6

Sheffield Wednesday this morning confirmed that Jose Semedo has signed a new contract to remain at Hillsborough.

The Portuguese midfielder was out of contract at the end of the 2013/14 season but he has now signed on to remain at the club.

The 29-year-old has attained cult status since joining the club from Charlton Athletic in 2011, having graduated from the Sporting Lisbon academy before coming to England in 2007.

He was named Owls fans’ Player of the Year as he played a pivotal role during the club’s promotion from League One, scoring his only goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

He made 31 appearances during the Owls’ first season back in the Championship, including against Nottingham Forest on 17 November when he was honoured by a fan-led ‘Semedo Day’.

Semedo has spoken in the past about his affection for the club and how he would love to remain at Wednesday for the rest of his career.

Oguchi Onyewu meanwhile won’t be rejoining the club, after it was revealed last night that talks have broken down between Wednesday and the American defender’s representatives.
