Owls Alive : it's the fans that count

IT'S OVER...AT LAST!

So Richard Wood has finally gone...what a saga! What a palaver!

It seems to have gone on forever and included every single person in South Yorkshire..

It's not been one of the best episodes for this football club...

It didn’t show Woody in a good light, the club in a good light, the manager or the fans…it’s had us all in a little bit of turmoil, and I’m pleased it’s over with.

I’m pleased he’s moved to a club that can pay him what he thinks he’s worth, that we can now get a player that we can afford to pay what WE think he’s worth and we can all move forward.

In the eyes of the Wednesday fans this is all about money…Woody wanted a wage rise in line with what he thought he was worth at the club, the clubs view of that was a slightly lesser valuation and neither was prepared to budge. When that happens there’s only one thing for sure….it’s going to get messy….and so it has….the next thing to happen is the player will move on…and so he has…

It’s not been a pleasant episode for the club or the player IMO.
He’s been at this club for 11 years and owes us nothing, but by the same token the club owes him nothing. This SHOULD have been an amicable parting, it should have been a player moving on to bigger and better things and everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday saying, so long and thanks for all your efforts, but it hasn’t panned out like that and just to muddy the waters a little more, Woodys agent Imre Varadi, another Hillsborough favourite, has also managed to tarnish HIS reputation and icon status with the Wednesday faithful. Strange how three players he represents, Tommy, Woody and Kilgallon at Untied, all refused to sign new contracts…all represented by Varadi when contracts were up for renewal.
There’s really no need for Wednesday fans to take all this to heart though really…Woody has what he wanted and whilst it may be seen as a sideways move at best by us, it’s what HE wanted.

We’ve enjoyed some great years with him, watched him put in some belting performances and he’s the last of the ‘Cardiff Crew’ to leave the club. Maybe it’s the right time to call time on that episode anyway.

Happier Times

We should thank him really and wish well….I’m no fan of Coventry City, in fact they do my nut in, everything about them.

The team, the ground, the stupid fookin rules about bastard fookin swearing at their ground, the soulless feeling inside the ground, the soulless feeling outside the ground, the lack of atmosphere….as you approach the outskirts of the city…and we NEVER seem to get fook all at their place and it’s always shit weather…

I hate the trip down there….hate it!

BUT…

I still wish Richard Wood well.

Even with my addled memory I can remember his fantastic smile whenever he’s scored, that goal at Blackpool when he ran towards us…he has a smile wider than the sun but when he scores it’s always got a look of shock mixed in…forget which game it was now but that certain goal he cleared off the line when it looked an impossible task…was it Wolves? Like all good defenders playing through pain…playing well beyond his young years and in reality above what we had any right to expect from someone so young at this level.

He has a young family and this move will have gone some way to securing their future. Who would begrudge anyone that?

Who wouldn’t do the same thing?

Take a wage rise when offered for doing the same job?

None of us.

Thanks Richard for all your time and effort at this club, good luck in the future and in all you do but I sincerely hope that Coventry stay below us forever and a day.

Now let’s move the fook on.

It hasn’t been handled perfectly by the club OR the manager but Woody is no longer our concern, THEY are.
Let’s circle the wagons and get behind em again….when ALL these players have fooked off, WE’LL STILL BE HERE.

MOVE ON!

Now then…this shower at Ipswich…that looks an easy 3 points for us.

Cheers
